2013: James Stockard

Jim Stockard is nationally-recognized affordable housing expert who has never forgotten his hometown: Jim served as a Commissioner of the Cambridge Housing Authority for nearly 40 years (including 6 terms as chair), and is a founding Trustee of the Cambridge Affordable Housing Trust Fund.

Jim is one of the main reasons that Cambridge is a national leader in creating and preserving public and affordable housing.

Jim has also served as Principal Investigator for the Congressional Public Housing Operating Cost Study, as the court-appointed Special Master for Public Housing in Washington, DC., and as a past president of the Citizens Housing and Planning Association, Massachusetts' largest research and advocacy group for housing and community development issues.

In addition to his brilliant public career, Jim has been a gifted teacher, mentor and consultant He has taught at Harvard’s Graduate School of Design, and long served as curator of the Loeb Fellowship program there. He was a principal for over 25 years with a Cambridge-based consulting firm that worked with non-profit groups and public agencies across the country.
